MUSIC: TNBT EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH L4C
TNBT got chatting to the members of music group L4C. 6 Young men with a heart for God, making quite a name for themselves they beat a handful of competition and won the chance to support Mobo Award Winners..
Here we find out what the future holds for the group and what they have to say about Christianity being boring.
So what does L4C stand for and how did the name come about?
The name stands for Love4Christ, the name came about after a discussion, the original intended name was Lyrical4Christ which after much thought wasn’t what we all wanted. God gave us an epiphany about the name Love4Christ and there we go!
How long have you been together?
The ministry started April 2009, that was only when 4 of the now 6 members were involved, after JayO and Leke joined and L4C was officially complete, we have been together fully since August 2009.
So after a year whats your vision for your group?
For all of us to spread the Gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to all corners of the planet, not just the UK and make L4C a label for all Christian youth to show the world who they are and to use their many talents for Christ.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
Our inspiration comes from the one and only Holy Spirit! We thank God!
You won the competition to perform at T3M how has this helped the profile of the group?
After winning the supporting act competition and performing in front of the crowd, we have gained a larger fanbase as more people are aware of our existence (literally lol) and not just 6 young youths from Birmingham, UK.
Where do you fellowship and which church do you attend?
We are all members of RCCG (Redeemed Christian Church of God) at two different respective branches, 3 of us (I.C.E, G Kid and Holee) attend Testimony Parish and J-Vibez, Leke and JayO attend Love Foundation Assembly.
As artists what have you learned?
That you shouldn’t conform or compromise to the rest of the scene, especially as Christian artists and also that you will be watched and judged by every move you make in the music industry, but that shouldn’t put you off making music for the Lord.
You guys are multi-talented besides music Tell us about your other skills?
J-Vibez- is a Keyboard player, photographer, actor, songwriter, administrator, music mentor for upcoming artists in Gospel and one of the founders of Kingdom Youths, a Christian youth initiative where we all will grow more in Christ.
Leke is a Drummer, songwriter, actor, producer, stage director and entrepreneur.
Holee is a Drummer, keyboardist, producer, scriptwriter, stage director and one of founders of Kingdom Youths.
I.C.E is a Dancer, promoter, social networker, producer, videographer and graphic designer.
G Kid is a Keyboardist, drummer, producer, actor, singer, graphic designer, photographer and blogging.
JayO is a Singer, journalist, verse writer, blogging, model, poet, creative writer and accountant!
Very impressive! Being a Christian what does that mean to you?
It means that we are Christ-like and we do not conform to the ways of the world (Romans 12:2) we are new creatures in His eternal salvation so all things have passed away (2 Corinthians 5:17) and are examples to the world.
What would you say to young people that think being a Christian is boring?A lot of youth belive that being a Christian is about changing everything about yourself eg the way you dress, act and relate to people but really all you need to do is come as you are as that is what Christ said and use your talents for Him. What we would say is if you find it boring it is best for you to get involved in your Christian lifestyle, become an active member in your church, learn an instrument if needs be, don’t be afraid to ask questions and be yourself and let Jesus work in you.
Who do you admire in music and who do you look up to?
Us as individuals we look up to different artists from different genres such as worshippers, rappers and even Pastors.
Do you have a role model and if so who is it?
Our role model that we can all agree with is Christ, because we wanna be His perfect bride.
What qualities do you need to make it in music?
Determined, hard-working and let the Spirit lead you. What we’ve learnt is God doesn't look for the best voice, he looks at our hearts and our passion and our drive, so as long as you have these characteristics He will guide you and use you for His glory!
What does the future hold for L4C?
You’d have to ask God for the long-term future! But right now we are just working on our second mix tape so keep an eye out for that!
If you could perform with anyone who would you perform with and why?
Just a few to mention would be Guvna B, DDT, Israel Houghton, Donnie McClurkin, Mali Music and Kirk Franklin but there are many, many more.
Do you write and produce your own tracks?
Right now, we only write our own music, but we are soon starting full-time beat producing so we won’t be relying on other producers soon.
With Record Labels there seems to be an influence in compromising beliefs and conforming to the image of the world. For new artists in Christianity do you guys think its best to be independent?
Yes we do, simply because you're doing Gods work, not mans, so you going against the Spirit isn’t a smart move.
What do you hope to accomplish in your music and other talents?
We hope to accomplish a lot of things with music and with our other talents we just wanna be the best we can be by Gods grace.
How can the Christian community reach the non believing youth?
by making public activities in the community, fundraising events, music concerts, rallys and evangelism.
Whats your favourite thing about being in music and whats your least favourite?
Our favourite is to spread the word in a style we love and least is the possibility of pride.
