MUSIC: FRANKLYN RELEASE’S ‘WILLIAM WORDSWORTH’ MUSIC VIDEO
It's not very often some of literature's greats feature on a rap record. William Shakespeare and William Wordsworth are usually subjects saved for the classroom but for UK artist Franklyn they are the inspiration behind his newest video release; William Wordsworth.
Where commercial rap commonly endorses sexual imagery and content of materialism, Franklyn flips the script in this typography video representing refreshing themes of visual creativity and poetic lyrics.
"Rap is poetry but over beats, Rap is an art the beat is a blank canvas".
Like the Lupe Fiasco track 'dumb it down' Franklyn is not one to dilute his lyrical substance to fit in with the current trends of popular music. The witty word play and clever metaphors of William Wordsworth, no doubt offer listeners a more meaningful sound and at the same time portray the craftsmanship of rap. William Wordsworth is a track that positively reminds us of the genre's skill and art quality.
The animated typography video directed by Rakeem Russel conveys a symbolic flow of thoughts and imagination which reinforce the strong sense of integrity Franklyn consistently expresses through his music.
