First Meagan Good revealed the benefits of no sex before marriage to her hubby Devon Franklin but this time around it's Tamera Mowry speaking on celibacy before marriage. In an interview with Ebony Magazine the former Sister to Sister Star revealed that she didn't live with her husband, Fox News Correspondent Adam Housley before they got hitched. It was in both of their values to abstain from sex until they made it

past the aisle. So what made the actress choose not to go down the route of co-habiting which many couples of today prefer? Tamera believes that not living together is key to her marriage success as well as remaining celibate which was also an important part of becoming a wife.

If we are meant to be together, we said, ‘it’s got to be God’s way and not our way.’ We didn’t want to half-step anything [or have clouded judgment]. So our right way was the way we felt God wanted us to do it which was being celibate.

Tamera recalls dating in the past which didn't always include these standards, she says:  I tried the ‘missionary dating’ [in the past] where you have a person with a great heart who you think is perfect and wonderful except for this one important area that you try to change. That’s unfair to that person. That person needs to be who they are 100%. And it’s unfair to you. You don’t want to drag somebody to church with you.

On her husband being a man of God:

My husband wakes up on Sundays and says ‘Hey, are we going to church today?’ It just makes [waiting] all worthwhile. I dated guys who did not share those same beliefs and it was hard.

Learning from her experiences Tamara admits: There were many nights of heartbreak and crying, and that’s not what God wants for us.

Tamera's top tips on keeping standards of celibacy until marriage:

  1. 'If you want to be celibate, definitely don’t live together [laughs] because that makes it harder for you. Have people around you to keep you accountable!'
  2. 'Surround yourself with people who support your decision, because they’re only going to root you on. Make that covenant with God and with each other and just let go. God is going to see you through the difficult times.'
  3. 'Whenever you’re feeling discouraged just pray together. Like I said it’s not going to be a perfect journey, but you just have to keep God the center of your relationship.'

This is great advice for peeps that want to centre their relationship around these strong Christian values. Tamera knew her man was the one because 'He loves God. Everything that he does, he goes to God about it first. He’s a strong man of faith and prayer. I find that very important for me because I am the same way.' Looks like the happy couple are now ready to expand their family as Tamera is currently expecting her first baby, a boy which is due any day now.

So is celibacy the way to go for a great marriage? It's definitely working for Tamera...
